Remo and Botafogo meet again on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at 9:30 p.m. Brasília time (UTC-3), at Mangueirão in Belém, in matchweek 33 of Brazil’s top-flight Série A. Since Remo’s 2-1 victory in the first meeting, both managers and the teams’ league circumstances have changed: at the end of round 31, Botafogo were 11th with 39 points and Remo were 19th with 26.

This review covers only the 2026 Brazilian men’s Série A. The standings and figures below are cut off after round 31, completed on October 19 and checked for this preview on October 22. Round 32 results can still change the picture before the rematch.

What happened in the first meeting on May 2?

The first league meeting of this edition took place on May 2 in round 14, with Botafogo hosting at Estádio Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro. Ferraresi put the hosts ahead in the 12th minute of the first half. Alef Manga equalised in the 24th minute of the second half, and Jajá scored in the 47th minute of the second half to give Remo a 2-1 win.

The CBF match record and Botafogo’s own report identify the result as a fixture in the 2026 Série A. It was not played at Mangueirão, and it must not be mistaken for an all-competition head-to-head record.

How had their campaigns changed by round 31?

Botafogo reached 39 points, with ten wins, nine draws and 12 defeats from 31 games. Remo had 26 points, with five wins, 11 draws and 15 defeats in the same number of matches. The gap was 13 points in the standings recorded after round 31.

After winning in Rio, Remo also defeated Chapecoense, São Paulo and Vitória in the Brasileirão, but have not won since beating Vitória 2-0 on July 26. A 1-1 home draw with Red Bull Bragantino on October 18 extended their winless league sequence to 11 matches. Botafogo ended round 31 with a 1-0 win over Chapecoense and a less precarious place in the standings.

Both clubs changed managers

Léo Condé managed Remo and Franclim Carvalho led Botafogo when the visitors won 2-1 in May. Remo announced Thiago Carpini on September 16 after Condé’s departure. On the same day Botafogo announced Tite as first-team coach, following Franclim’s exit in August and an interim spell.

Through round 31, Tite had managed four Brasileirão matches for Botafogo, with one win, one draw and two defeats. His first win came against Chapecoense on October 17. For Remo, three consecutive draws had not removed the urgent need for wins in their fight against relegation.

What were their most recent results?

The most recent three fixtures for each side, all from the 2026 Série A and before round 32, highlight Remo’s run of draws and Botafogo’s recent win. These are not head-to-head meetings and exclude cup matches.

What matters in the return to Mangueirão?

The home advantage is reversed: Remo will play in Belém, while Botafogo will be away. Despite Remo’s May away win, the current context calls for caution. Through round 31, Botafogo had four wins, three draws and eight defeats from 15 Série A away games; Remo were among the league’s weaker home teams, according to ge’s assessment.

Botafogo’s attacking efficiency is another important change. Gato Mestre figures reported by ge show 237 shots and 33 goals in the first half of the league season, equivalent to 7.18 shots per goal. In the 12 second-half fixtures played through round 31, Botafogo had 188 shots and 11 goals, or 17.09 shots per goal. This is simply shots divided by goals in each defined period, not expected goals (xG) or a forecast for October 28.

Remo need to turn draws into wins to improve their position; Botafogo seek greater consistency, particularly away. Those are observations about the season, not guarantees about the upcoming result.

What can still change before kickoff?

Ahead of round 33, Remo face Cruzeiro on October 23 at 8 p.m. at Mineirão. Botafogo visit Internacional on October 24 at 4:30 p.m. at Beira-Rio. Both kickoff times are Brasília time (UTC-3). The results can change the clubs’ points totals and the standings described here.

Official starting lineups and player availability for Remo vs Botafogo were not yet settled at this cutoff. The rematch is a scheduled fixture, not a completed result. This comparison needs a new check once round 32 has been played.
