The Saudi Professional League (SPL) has moved Al-Ahli vs Al-Nassr, a Matchweek 9 fixture in the 2026/27 Saudi Pro League, from October 15, 2026 to March 6, 2027. Its official announcement on October 13 also moved Al-Riyadh vs Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad vs Al-Shabab, previously scheduled for October 16, to December 19, 2026. These are three postponed fixtures, not three cancelled matches.
The new dates were announced by the competition organiser and described in an Arab News report published on October 14. The comparison below uses the dates in effect immediately before the October 13 decision, because Matchweek 9 had already been moved as part of a wider calendar revision in August.
Which three Matchweek 9 fixtures have been rescheduled?
All three matches remain part of Matchweek 9 of the 2026/27 Roshn Saudi League. The dates shown are those published for the competition's calendar in Saudi Arabia; the rescheduling announcement did not specify kick-off times.
| Fixture | Date before Oct 13 change | New date |
|---|---|---|
| Al-Ahli vs Al-Nassr | Thursday, October 15, 2026 | Saturday, March 6, 2027 |
| Al-Riyadh vs Al-Hilal | Friday, October 16, 2026 | Saturday, December 19, 2026 |
| Al-Ittihad vs Al-Shabab | Friday, October 16, 2026 | Saturday, December 19, 2026 |
The SPL confirmed the revised dates for all three matches in its October 13 statement. Arab News' October 14 coverage provides each fixture's previous date. Al-Ahli vs Al-Nassr has been pushed into the following calendar year, whereas the other two fixtures will be played in December 2026.
Why did the league change the dates?
According to the SPL, the decision accounted for mandatory minimum rest periods between matches as well as logistical, operational and organisational requirements for staging games. The league said the change followed its approved competition scheduling procedures. Arab News reported the same explanation based on the league's decision.
That is the formal reason provided in the statement. The announcement does not specify a separate reason for each match or give revised kick-off times. An additional cause therefore cannot be attributed to any individual fixture as though the organiser had confirmed it.
What had already changed in August?
The October decision was not the first calendar change affecting Matchweek 9. On August 23, 2026, the SPL announced the rescheduling of Matchweeks 8, 9 and 10 after coordinating with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation to extend national-team preparations for the 2026 Arabian Gulf Cup and protect recovery time. At that stage, Matchweek 9 moved from its original October 9 to 11 window to October 15 to 17.
On October 13, three fixtures from that later window received their own new dates. The October 15 and 16 dates in the table therefore describe the schedule immediately before the second adjustment, not necessarily the earliest version of the full-season schedule.
How do games in hand affect the standings?
All three fixtures retain their Matchweek 9 designation despite now being due after the round's original window. Until each match is played, its result and points cannot be counted as though it had already taken place.
Because the remaining Matchweek 9 fixtures were left on their planned dates in the October 13 announcement, the postponements can temporarily leave clubs with different numbers of matches played. Comparing points alone without checking how many games have actually been completed may therefore give an incomplete picture of the standings. Having a game in hand does not guarantee future points.
Were the other Matchweek 9 games changed?
Not by this specific decision: on October 13, the SPL said the other Matchweek 9 fixtures would keep their then-announced dates. That does not rule out later calendar changes. Editorial check on October 22, 2026: the three revised dates are documented in the sources below, but the rescheduling statement provides no kick-off times that could be converted to Brasília time. Anyone planning to watch or attend should recheck the official schedule closer to each match.
