Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund go into Der Klassiker on 31 October 2026 level on 17 points after seven matches in the men's 2026/27 Bundesliga. Their identical records conceal a sharp contrast in attack: Bayern have scored 25 goals, compared with 12 for Dortmund. Both remain unbeaten, but Bayern are first on goal difference, +19 versus +8, according to the matchday 7 standings checked on 26 October.

Seven matches, equal points, different output

Each side has five wins, two draws and no defeats. The figures below cover only their first seven matches of the 2026/27 Bundesliga season, following the round played between 23 and 25 October. They exclude the German Cup, European competitions and matches from other seasons.

Across this sample, the straightforward averages are 3.57 goals scored per game for Bayern and 1.71 for Dortmund. The cumulative gap of 13 goals scored illustrates the attacking contrast, but does not by itself measure chance creation, finishing efficiency or the strength of opponents.

Why are Bayern ahead in the standings?

Goals conceded and goal difference provide the answer. Bayern have let in six goals in seven games, while Dortmund have conceded only four. Dortmund's slightly better defensive figure does not cancel out Bayern's attacking advantage: Dortmund have 13 fewer goals for, but have conceded only two fewer. Subtracting goals against from goals for gives Bayern 25 minus 6, or +19, and Dortmund 12 minus 4, or +8. The 11-goal gap in goal difference accounts for Bayern ranking above Dortmund while both are on 17 points at this cut-off.

On matchday 7, Dortmund beat Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 on 24 October, and Bayern won 3-1 away at Freiburg on 25 October. Those results appear in the DFB Datencenter and kept both teams unbeaten in the league.

Home and away figures add context, not a prediction

The same standings provide a further distinction. In three home matches, Bayern have scored 18 goals and conceded two; in three away matches, Dortmund have scored four and also conceded two. Each subset contains only three fixtures and should not be treated as a forecast for the head-to-head meeting. Season and venue splits describe previous results, not confirmed line-ups, win probabilities or an eventual score.

Bayern host Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Saturday, 31 October, in matchday 8. The Bundesliga confirmed kick-off at 18:30 CET (14:30 in Brasília). The fixture had not taken place as of this analysis cut-off, 26 October 2026. The attacking contrast will be tested on the pitch, but the current sample supports only Bayern's greater cumulative scoring output and Dortmund's modest edge in goals conceded.
