Leverkusen host Marseille on 5 November 2026 at 21:00 CET (17:00 in Brasília) on Matchday 4 of the 2026/27 UEFA Europa League league phase. In the three games each side played through 22 October, the German club collected nine points, scored eight goals and conceded none. Marseille have yet to earn a point, with one goal scored and six conceded. The fixture is still to be played; those figures are not a score prediction.

Leverkusen and Marseille after three matchdays

This comparison covers only the 2026/27 Europa League league phase, using three completed official matches per club from UEFA's results listing. The six final scores do not describe either team's full season or performances in other competitions.

Leverkusen33-0-0980+83
Marseille30-0-3016-50

Leverkusen won all three matches, including two away from home, while keeping a clean sheet in each one. Marseille lost all three, scoring once and finishing with a goal difference of minus five. Clean sheets here are counted from final results only; they do not measure chances allowed or the quality of opponents' shots.

The six results behind the comparison

TeamDateResult
Leverkusen16/09/2026Leverkusen 2-0 Celje
Leverkusen15/10/2026Lech Poznań 0-4 Leverkusen
Leverkusen22/10/2026OFI Crete 0-2 Leverkusen
Marseille17/09/2026Beşiktaş 4-1 Marseille
Marseille15/10/2026Marseille 0-1 Olympiacos
Marseille22/10/2026Sturm Graz 1-0 Marseille

The German side opened with a 2-0 win over Celje, beat Lech Poznań 4-0 away and recorded another 2-0 away win at OFI Crete. Six of Leverkusen's eight goals therefore came on their two away trips. Marseille scored their only goal in a 4-1 defeat to Beşiktaş before consecutive 1-0 losses against Olympiacos and Sturm Graz, without scoring in either match.

What the numbers show, and what they cannot establish

The contrast in the teams' accumulated scores is clear, but three fixtures represent only 37.5% of each club's eight-match league phase. They faced different opponents and played different combinations of home and away games. These totals cannot, on their own, establish tactical superiority, a probability of victory or an expected-goals figure for 5 November.

Marseille's six goals conceded were not spread evenly: four came against Beşiktaş in their opener, with one conceded in each of the next two defeats. That is a description of results, not proof of a defensive turnaround. Likewise, three clean sheets do not guarantee Leverkusen will avoid conceding in the next match.

Why does Matchday 4 matter in the league phase?

Under Article 17 of UEFA's 2026/27 regulations, every club plays eight different opponents and all 36 teams share one league ranking, with three points for a win and one for a draw. At the end of the phase, the top eight qualify directly for the round of 16; teams ranked ninth to 24th enter the knockout play-offs, while the rest are eliminated.

The fourth fixture therefore pits a team with a maximum nine points so far against one seeking its first. Both will still have four league-phase matches to play after this encounter. Neither qualification nor elimination follows solely from the current run. Results, schedule and pre-match status checked on 24 October 2026, after Matchday 3.
