Egypt’s Al Ahly, Morocco’s Raja Club Athletic, Angola’s Primeiro de Agosto and Togo’s ASKO de Kara make up Group A of the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup. The draw took place in Cairo on 28 October, and CAF published the official group lineup on 29 October. Each club has three group opponents, with the top two teams advancing to the quarter-finals.
This is the CAF Confederation Cup, not the CAF Champions League. Although both competitions held their draws on the same day, their groups and qualification races are separate.
Which four clubs are in Group A?
| Club | Country | Group opponents |
|---|---|---|
| Al Ahly | Egypt | Raja, Primeiro de Agosto and ASKO de Kara |
| Raja Club Athletic | Morocco | Al Ahly, Primeiro de Agosto and ASKO de Kara |
| Primeiro de Agosto | Angola | Al Ahly, Raja and ASKO de Kara |
| ASKO de Kara | Togo | Al Ahly, Raja and Primeiro de Agosto |
The format gives each team six fixtures, three at home and three away, with home-and-away meetings against the other group members. The draw determines the opponents but does not guarantee any team a place in the knockout stage.
When does the group stage begin?
Matchday 1 is scheduled for the 27-29 November 2026 window. CAF’s general calendar sets out six matchdays through January 2027:
| Matchday | Official window |
|---|---|
| Matchday 1 | 27-29 November 2026 |
| Matchday 2 | 4-6 December 2026 |
| Matchday 3 | 18-20 December 2026 |
| Matchday 4 | 8-10 January 2027 |
| Matchday 5 | 15-17 January 2027 |
| Matchday 6 | 22-24 January 2027 |
These dates are matchday windows, not confirmation of the exact day, kick-off time, stadium or broadcast for any individual fixture. Those details depend on the schedule issued for each match.
How many teams advance, and when are the quarter-finals?
Group A provides two quarter-final places. With four groups of four clubs and the same qualification rule in each, eight teams progress to the knockout stage. CAF’s calendar schedules the quarter-final first legs for 26-28 February 2027 and the return legs for 5-7 March.
The context behind Al Ahly and Raja’s group
Al Ahly reached the group stage by beating Uganda’s Kitara FC 6-1 on aggregate in the second preliminary round, according to CAF and the Egyptian club. Primeiro de Agosto defeated DR Congo’s DC Virunga 3-1 on aggregate, CAF reported. Those were preliminary-round results and do not count as Group A points.
Al Ahly and Raja have faced each other in the CAF Champions League, including knockout ties in 2022 and 2023 covered by Ahram Online. The meeting produced by this draw belongs to a different competition. As checked on 29 October 2026, the confirmed information is the Group A lineup, the matchday windows and the qualification rule.
