Atlético vs Bayern: ten Champions League goals, just five points

Bayern go into the 3 November match with ten goals, five points and two draws. Compare their results with Atlético, who have four points.

Atlético de Madrid host Bayern München on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, at 21:00 in Madrid (CET, 17:00 in Brasília), on Matchday 4 of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League league phase. The venue is the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. Heading into the meeting, Bayern have scored ten goals in three matches but collected only five points. Atlético have scored four goals and earned four points.

That contrast is not an inconsistency in the standings: the German club have one win and two draws, while the Spanish side have one win, one draw and one defeat. Goals measure how often a team has scored; points depend on each match result.

Atlético vs Bayern: date, venue and figures before Matchday 4

UEFA schedules the game for 3 November at 21:00 CET, with the Madrid club also confirming the time and stadium. The table covers only the clubs' first three games in the 2026/27 Champions League, completed by 21 October, and the positions shown by UEFA after that matchday.

Bayern average 3.33 goals scored and 1.67 conceded per match; Atlético average 1.33 scored and 1.00 conceded. These are simply the totals divided by three matches, not expected-goals (xG) figures or stand-alone measures of tactical superiority. After Matchday 3, Bayern were 14th and Atlético 16th in UEFA's table, with one point between them.

The three results behind those totals

Bayern opened with a 5-0 win over Bodø/Glimt on 10 September. They then drew 3-3 away to Viking on 13 October and 2-2 with Arsenal on 21 October. Half of their ten goals came in their only win; the other five were scored in two draws that yielded just two points.

Atlético began with a 2-1 defeat at Liverpool on 9 September. They beat Manchester United 2-0 on 13 October and drew 1-1 with Stuttgart on 20 October. That leaves them with four goals for, three against and four points, from one win, one draw and one loss.

Why have ten goals brought Bayern only five points?

A match win is worth three points, while a draw is worth one. Bayern scored five times across their two draws but earned only two points from them. They also conceded all five of their league-phase goals in those matches. By contrast, their opening 5-0 victory was worth three points, exactly as a one-goal victory would have been.

Bayern's goal difference stands at plus five, against Atlético's plus one. Goal difference can matter under UEFA's tiebreaking rules, but it does not replace points in the standings. Nor does a sample of three games establish which side will control the contest on 3 November.

What could the match change in the league phase?

There are 36 clubs in the competition, each playing eight league-phase matches. When that stage ends, the top eight advance directly to the round of 16; teams ranked ninth to 24th enter the knockout phase play-offs; those ranked 25th to 36th are eliminated. Current positions therefore do not guarantee advancement.

Looking only at the head-to-head result, an Atlético win would take the hosts from four to seven points while Bayern remain on five. A Bayern win would take them to eight points and leave Atlético on four. A draw would give Bayern six and Atlético five. Their positions after the matchday will also depend on other results.

Data cut-off: results and standings through Matchday 3, completed on 21 October 2026; checked on 24 October. No result, confirmed starting XI or prediction is attributed to the forthcoming match.
